Timber traffic is predominantly imported from Russia and the Baltic States, as well as from Finland and Sweden. Large quantities of timber and paper, imported from the east coast of Sweden, are handled at Aldam Terminal. In 2001, a new shed of 2,700 sq m was completed at Ouse Dock for TransAtlantic (UK) Ltd to improve the undercover storage of kiln-dried and specialised timber.
Several major improvements have been made to storage facilities at West Dock in recent years. In 2001, a new 5,250 sq m timber and board materials-storage shed was constructed to supplement the existing areas of covered storage for Global Shipping Services Ltd, and a further 3,000 sq m shed was completed in 2003 for the storage of woodpulp for Scotline.
Additional storage sheds have also recently been constructed at the Boothferry Terminal to supplement the existing covered storage for the handling of paper traffic by RMS Europe Ltd.
Timber traffic is also handled by Caldaire Terminal and South Dock Terminals Ltd at their terminals the South Dock.
