Containers Cardiff Container Terminal, operated by Cardiff Container Line, handles services to and from Ireland and the Mediterranean, and the terminal benefits from rail services, providing easy access to a wide hinterland. Covered accommodation is available and value-added services, such as stuffing, clearance and distribution, can be arranged. More information about Cardiff Container Line can be found at www.cardiffcontainerline.co.uk Dry Bulks Bulk cargoes, such as aggregates and minerals, are handled on a regular basis, supported by modern handling equipment and techniques. Pet-products specialist, Bob Martin Company, operates a dedicated storage and bagging facility at the port’s Queen Alexandra Dock. Forest Products The port is utilised by regular liner services from the Baltic states and Scandinavia. At No. 1 Berth, Queen Alexandra Dock, a terminal is operated on behalf of port customers Travis Perkins and FW Morgan. The Roath Dock Terminal, is a 40,000 sq m timber facility, also operated by Cardiff Stevedoring Ltd. Both terminals have extensive covered and uncovered storage, and facilities for timber treatment and pallet manufacture are available at the port estate. Fresh Produce & Perishables The Cardiff Cold Store, operated by Wild Water Logistics, provides state-of-the-art, dockside, storage and handling facilities for all types of fresh produce and perishables. The cold store features over 13,500 sq m of chilled, ambient and frozen warehousing space – divided into nine chambers – for the storage of a large variety of fresh produce and perishables awaiting onward delivery across the UK. The store also benefits from a computerised stock-control system. General Cargo Cardiff handles a range of general and project cargoes, and can offer berths for heavy ro-ro activity. ABP recently completed work on a new berth in Queen Alexandra Dock, which facilitates the handling of heavy-lift project cargo. Liquid Bulks Extensive storage and dedicated handling facilities are available for a variety of liquid-bulk cargoes. Simon Storage operates a petrol- and diesel-distribution site at the port, on behalf of Chevron Texaco. Other major liquid-bulk customers include Inver Energy (UK) Ltd, which has a heavy fuel-oil import and distribution terminal, and HCB Storage, which operates a multi-purpose fuel oil, chemical and distillate-storage facility for a number of customers. Steel & Other Metals Cardiff is a major UK steel-handling port, which accommodates both large ocean-going and smaller short-sea vessels, and receives shipments from all over the world. Thanks to ABP’s continued investment in dedicated steel facilities, steel throughput at the port continues to grow. After signing an agreement with customer WE Dowds (Shipping) Ltd in 2007, ABP invested in an additional 25-tonne overhead-gantry crane. Cardiff Stevedoring operates steel warehousing for several key steel traders. It also operates an import/export facility for Celsa UK Ltd, which manages a major steel-production site adjacent to the port estate, equipped with a 35-tonne capacity mobile harbour crane, a weighbridge and a fleet of mobile plant and handling equipment. CM Willie operates a weekly liner service from Spain that calls to the Roath Dock Terminal, operated by Cardiff Stevedoring. Passengers & Cruises Cardiff is an attractive port of call for visiting cruise liners. The port is the ideal location from which to explore the region’s award-winning attractions and the beautiful scenery of the Wye Valley, Brecon Beacons National Park and the Glamorgan Heritage Coast. The Celtic Manor Resort, host venue of the 2012 Ryder Cup, is just east of the port, which sits alongside one of Europe’s most exciting and stylish waterfront developments, featuring boutiques, iconic buildings and artwork and alfresco dining. The port has a number of facilities approved for accommodating cruise vessels alongside and an anchorage just a short tender ride away for larger vessels. The port is an ideal location for turnaround facilities as some 50 per cent of the UK population lie within four hours’ drive.
